On April 15 at about 8:30 pm, Corporal Joe Johnson from the Nyssa, Oregon Police Department was dispatched to a call involving a violent offender. Cpl. Johnson located the suspect in a vehicle which led to a short pursuit. Once stopped, the suspect immediately opened fire on Cpl. Johnson. Cpl. Johnson was fatally wounded before he was able to return fire.
Corporal Johnson has selflessly served as a volunteer police officer for the City of Nyssa since 2018. He has been employed by the Oregon Department of Corrections since 2007. Corporal Johnson leaves behind a wife and two children.
