Ernesto "Ernie" Gomez ID #135 (badge #673) joined the El Paso Police Department on March 30th, 1964, and was an active police officer for the City of El Paso, Texas. In 1987, Ernesto Gomez was diagnosed with cancer and ultimately lost his battle to the disease. During Ernie's time of medical need, his fellow El Paso Police Department officers "passed around the hat" and raised funds to assist him with his medical treatments and other unexpected expenses. After Ernie Gomez's death, in honor of his service, the El Paso Municipal Police Officers Association memorialized his name and started the Ernie Gomez Relief Fund.
The Ernie Gomez Relief Fund assists police officers who are in need of assistance with medical related expenses, etc. The El Paso Municipal Police Officers Association often hosts events to contribute to the Ernie Gomez Relief fund, but together, we can have a more powerful impact on those officers in their time of need.
