Candidate for Vice President for the Eastern Region
Matt Taibi serves as the principal officer of Local 251 in Providence, Rhode Island. Local 251 has over 6,000 members in a wide range of industries, including freight, hospital, and the public sector. He joins the O’Brien-Zuckerman 2021 Slate as a candidate for IBT Vice President of the Eastern Region.
Since being elected, Taibi has increased financial transparency and accountability. He has fought against concessions and won major gains in contract negotiations such as pay increases, healthcare gains, and pension benefits. He attributes much of this success to his emphasis on member-driven contract negotiations and shifting resources to member education and training.
Taibi is a longtime member of Teamsters for a Democratic Union. He joins the OZ Slate to “Unite with leaders who fight for the members and take on corporate greed.” His top three priorities if elected to IBT leadership are organizing, membership involvement, and financial responsibility.
