We are conducting this benevolent fundraiser on behalf of Brandon Minneman, a beloved member of our local who is facing ongoing and new challenges in his fight against a rare and aggressive Synovial Sarcoma Cancer.
We first launched this benevolent fundraiser back in 2023 as the costs of uncovered medical treatments were causing a great financial burden on Brandon and his family.
As the cancer has been progressing, Brandon and his wife Abby made a trip to Hawaii knowing it might be their last trip together with him being healthy enough to travel. Brandons care team was supportive of this choice and encouraged them to take this time together deeming his health to be in a stable enough condition to do so.
During the flight to Hawaii, he became short of breath and this continued when he landed. Within hours of arriving at their hotel 911 was called and Honolulu Fire transported Brandon to the hospital. He was diagnosed with a pneumothorax. A chest tube was placed to re-inflate his right lung. Doctors were hoping the lung would be able to seal on its own, but that did not happen. They also found more rapid growth of the tumors in his lungs. The critical care pulmonologist did a procedure to try and get the lung to stick to the chest wall and now they are waiting to see if the procedure works. If it works, he can fly home in a few days. If it doesn’t work, then they are faced with a surgical option. They are flying their three kids out to be with them as it is unknown how long they will have to stay.
As you can imagine, the costs associated with these unforeseen circumstances will be overwhelming. To provide Brandon with the best possible care and alleviate significant financial stress, we are re-launching this fundraising campaign to collect donations that can be used on his behalf through our benevolent fund, the Puget Sound Firefighters Foundation.
We kindly request contributions to benefit Brother Minneman. Any amount will be greatly appreciated and will go a long way in making a positive impact on Brandon's treatment. Your donation can be made below this message, Venmo (@KentFirefighters) or by check mailed to Puget Sound Firefighters Foundation C/O Minneman at PO Box 6383 Kent, WA 98064.
**Abby and Brandon are so thankful for the overall support, for the care team at this hospital and the Honolulu Fire Department. Everyone is working together to help stabilize Brandon enough that they can get him home. Please continue to pray for Brandon and his family.
Thank you for taking the time to consider our request. Together, we can provide him with the necessary resources to focus on his recovery and well-being.
